Norah's Story

Daancia Jean

This morning, I sat down and wrote a letter to our sponsored child from Compassion International.  I have been having a hard week...lots of tears shed, still trying to sort all this out and getting down on myself for feeling this way an entire year later.  Taking 10 minutes to write Daancia a letter just lifted my spirits....

You see, last Christmas we couldn't even pull it together to get gifts for our extended family.  I didn't have it in me to go shopping or to even think about what to buy people.  So, instead we opted to sponsor a child in honor of Norah.  We selected a little girl from Haiti who was born on the same day as Norah--November 26.  She just turned 6, so she is Maggie's age.  We went through all the children that were born on that day, and Maggie hand-picked Daancia as "our child."

Over the last year, we have had great satisfaction in receiving letters and pictures from Daancia.  There is something very special about knowing we are helping this little girl who was born on Norah's birthday.  Greg and I also have a connection to Haiti since we have both had the opportunity to serve there--who knows, maybe someday we can go back and meet her!

If you are interested in sponsoring a child, you can go to Compassion International .
