Bittersweet

Today is day 6 of not nursing Maggie for the first time in 17 1/2 months. It is bittersweet to me because
a) my little girl is just that--a girl now and not a baby
b) I never thought I would go this long with nursing and have enjoyed the mommy/baby bonding time with her--she doesn't really like to stay still much, so nursing has been pretty much the only time where she snuggles and just stays put
c) it wasn't by her choice, it was my mine (well, and Greg's)--we both felt like the longer she went the harder it would be to wean because she now knows what she wants and can ask for it.

So, goodbye "na nas" (that is what Maggie affectionately calls nursing). I am very proud of all the great nutrients and antibodies I have given my girl, but it is time to say goodbye!
